Central Oregon Trail Alliance Welcomes New Development Director

Published on Feb 12, 2024

It is with great excitement that Central Oregon Trail Alliance (COTA) announces the appointment of a new Development Director, Kira Sandiford! Possessing extensive experience and a deep dedication to our mission, Kira is set to play a crucial role in advancing COTA’s development initiatives.

A message from the new hire, “Hey folks! Kira here, I am thrilled to announce that I have joined the COTA team as the fifth employee, and the new Development Director! I’m here to embody COTA’s mission to develop, protect, and enhance the Central Oregon mountain bike experience. I’ll be spearheading strategic fundraising plans, cultivating relationships with our major donors, and developing partnerships with local businesses. I plan to both boost COTA memberships and launch fundraising campaigns that propel us forward.

A bit about me: I’m an outdoor enthusiast with a playful spirit, and a penchant for mountain biking and water adventures. Originating from sunny Los Angeles, I earned my bachelor’s degree at Kalamazoo College in Michigan, (shout out to the Posse Scholarship!), and I’m currently working on a Master of Science in Digital Media at USC Annenberg. My journey has taken me around the globe, from studying abroad in Thailand to solo hiking the Pacific Crest Trail and building my own tiny house on wheels.

Before joining COTA, I spent 8 years with REI, in roles spanning retail sales, outdoor programs, and outreach. As the former Operations Manager for the Bend store, I honed my skills in team leadership and strategic planning—skills that align perfectly with my new role as Development Director at COTA.

After relocating to Oregon in 2018, I discovered my passion for mountain biking. I started with a hardtail on Mt. Ashland and quickly upgraded to a full suspension bike. My favorite style of riding is gravity driven; I can’t resist some cross-country miles. My current favorite trail is the Royal Flush/Afternoon Delight combo, absolute gems showcasing the beauty of our trails.

So, as the new Development Director, I’m here to engage with members of the mountain bike community, share my passion for COTA and our trails, and work hard to ensure the continued success of our organization. Feel free to reach out anytime at Kira.sandiford@cotamtb.com. See you on the trails—or for now, on the ski slopes!”

Filling this role marks a huge milestone for COTA, and we are stoked to be sharing it with you all. Her role is vital in fostering the growth of our organization, so join us in welcoming Kira to the COTA family!
