The Council on Aging of Central Oregon is starting the year strong with $56,000 in new grant funding to bolster its senior nutrition programs, including Meals on Wheels and Community Dining. These funds will help meet the growing demand for nutritious meals and meaningful connections among older adults in Central Oregon.
Access to nutritious meals is critical for older adults to maintain their health, independence, and quality of life. Meals on Wheels provides home-delivered meals to those who are unable to shop or cook due to lack of transportation, mobility challenges, or other barriers. These meals ensure that older adults receive the nutrition they need while also providing a regular safety check and social interaction with dedicated volunteers.
At the same time, Community Dining sites across the tri-county offer welcoming spaces for older adults to share a meal, connect with peers, and engage with resources that help them age well. Both programs play a vital role in reducing food insecurity and social isolation—two key factors that impact overall well-being as people age.
The Council on Aging is honored to receive generous grant funding from community-minded organizations dedicated to improving the well-being of older adults:
-
- TC Energy – $11,000 to enhance both Meals on Wheels and community dining programs.
- Cow Creek Umpqua Indian Foundation – $10,000 to directly support nutrition programs in Deschutes County.
- Les Schwab – $15,000 to strengthen senior nutrition services.
- Marinus Newhouse Charitable Fund – $20,000 to expand community dining services.
“These grants mark a strong start to the year and reaffirm the importance of our work,” said Cassie Regimbal, Executive Director of the Council on Aging of Central Oregon. “With demand for our services continuing to grow, this funding will help ensure that older adults across our region receive the nutritious meals and personal connections they rely on.”
