Cascades Academy Invites the Community to its Free Education Series

Published on Oct 17, 2022

Cascades Academy launched its annual Education Series for the 2022-2023 year, focused on bringing the community together to enhance lifelong learning, provide opportunities to connect with neighbors and subject matter experts, and hear tips for joyful parenting. All events are open to the public and free to attend, though registration is required due to limited space.

“As Cascades Academy commemorates its 20th anniversary this year, we’re focused on celebrating our exceptional community of students, families, partners, and neighbors.” said Julie Amberg, Head of School. “This Education Series provides a unique opportunity for us to come together to hear from experts on relevant issues, and just as importantly to learn from each other and those in our broader community.”

The event series kicked off with Bex Mui of LGBTQ+ & Equity Consulting for Expanding Gender Identity on Wednesday, October 5. Bex taught in elementary classrooms for ten years before moving to national LGBTQ+ school-based advocacy with a focus on adult learning. She joined Cascades Academy to provide context for the gender binary and the ways it continues to show up in society, including schools. Participants learned gender terminology, had the chance to reflect on personal experiences, and found out why pronouns can make such a big difference.

Additional events in the Education Series include:

  • Challenge Success: The healthy approach to college admissions on October 27
  • Courage of Compassion with Ruth Williamson on November 9
  • Transhood Documentary screening and panel discussion on December 8

Community members are encouraged to join any or all events in the series, which will be held on Cascades Academy’s campus unless otherwise indicated. Additional details and the links to register can be found at cascadesacademy.org/edseries.
