January marks National Mentoring Month, a time to recognize the transformative impact that mentors have on the lives of young people. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon (BBBSCO) invites the community to celebrate this important month by joining our mission to ignite the potential in every child through mentorship.

Today, one in three kids in America are growing up without a positive adult mentor in their lives. Mentoring is more than just guidance, it’s a powerful, life-changing relationship that helps youth thrive. Research shows that young people with mentors are more likely to graduate from high school, pursue higher education, and develop healthy, positive relationships. They are also less likely to engage in risky behaviors, demonstrating the profound impact of a caring adult in their lives.

To Honor National Mentoring Month:

• Share a Moment: Share personal stories of mentorship and experiences using #MentoringMonth and #BBBSCOMentors
• Give a Little Time: Sign up to be a “Big”—you don’t have to perfect, just present.
• Be BIG: Donate to BBBSCO to help local kids receive life-changing mentoring services.

“At Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Oregon, we believe that every child deserves a mentor—someone who believes in them and supports them as they navigate life’s challenges,” said Program Director, Jenn Davis. “National Mentoring Month is a time to celebrate the mentors who make a difference and to encourage others to step up and become a Big.”

Currently, BBBSCO serves over 200 children a year across Central Oregon, but the need for mentors is greater than ever. The agency has a growing list of Littles waiting to be matched with Bigs. Mentoring is an opportunity to not only change a child’s life but also to grow personally, gaining new perspectives and enriching your own life.
