Housing for Our Community
The Pre-Approved Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) Design Library is the result of the Bend Chamber’s continued efforts and shared values with the City of Bend to encourage and incentivize the construction of ADUs. The City’s housing strategy encourages the development of more diverse housing units and recognizes that ADUs are an integral part of the housing continuum.
Why ADUs?
• Creates more housing opportunities in existing neighborhoods with existing communities.
• Takes advantage of existing and often costly infrastructure.
• Creates opportunities for intergenerational living, onsite caretakers, or assistants such as childcare or assisted living.
• Provides financial benefit and/or property value to the property owner.
• Triggers economic development at a local scale through local builders/contractors.
• Contributes to the density efforts in a community-based approach.
• Provides more diversity in our neighborhoods.
How to Use a Pre-Approved Plan
1. Browse the Gallery
Explore our growing library of pre-approved ADU plans. Review the images and details for each design to find one suitable for your needs and site.
2. Select a Design
Once you choose a plan, connect with its designer through the contact information on each plan’s page. The designer can guide you through the permitting process and describe other services they offer. Pre-approved ADU plans can be purchased directly from the designer.
3. Prepare a Site Plan
To complete permitting, you’ll work with your designer to prepare a site plan showing the pre-approved structure on your site. This allows the City to review zoning, drainage, and other site-specific factors.
4. Get a Permit
Submit a building permit application to City of Bend though CityView. When submitting, please identify the plan as part of the pre-approved ADU program in the project description section.
