Bend Chamber Working with Local Task Force on Child Care Needs Issue

Local Task Force on Child Care

kids girl pencil drawingOn Wednesday, June 13, you might have received and email from the Bend Chamber of Commerce asking for your feedback on the subject of child care availability/affordability here in Central Oregon. That’s because the Chamber is working with a local task force to better understand the issue from an economic standpoint.

The lack of available or affordable child care isn’t just a family thing. It’s broader than that as it affects businesses and their employees. Salaries, attracting top talent, employee absenteeism, cost of doing business – these are just a few of the areas that local businesses and employees struggle with as bi-products of the lack of affordable and easily accessible child care. Most certified child care centers have a year-long waiting list. Check out this piece by Central Oregon Daily on the subject…

Hello Bend Chamber, Parents and Children,

This feed has caught my eye and is of great interest. I have the honor of teaching and spending my days at my childcare center here in Hood River, servicing about 40 families. Currently our program is filled with Littles ranging in age from 18 months to 5 years. I have taught for 37 years and enjoyed leading my own center for the past 15. It is my hope to relocate to Bend and have been looking at a vacation home to ease that transition. Hood River is lovely but my heart is growing in Bend. I would love to learn more about the needs of your community. I will keep up on this conversation, as well as make contact with your chamber. I am currently the Chamber Chair here in Hood River, it seems like a natural connection. If anyone is interested is getting a feel for the type of program I love to offer please feel free to visit my site at Any questions or comments please feel free to reach out. I will do my best to find my way back to this link and respond. Respectfully, Teacher Janet
