Why did you decide to become a judge?
I was thrilled when Robin asked me to become a judge and wanted to do so to honor the amazing women that live in this community. I feel blessed in my past work situations to be connected to amazing women that make a difference to our community and felt that I could be an asset to the panel.
What does the Woman of the Year Awards mean to you?
“WOTY” is a special time to honor amazing women in our community making a difference every day. Many are behind the scenes doing great work, and this event is an opportunity to share their stories.
With a split love for city and mountains, Sonja spent most of her school years between San Francisco and Sun Valley, Idaho.
After graduating from UC Davis, she opened her own business in the financial district in San Francisco featuring retail wine, tasting bar, cheese, café and catering. Five years later, she moved to Idaho to pursue a career in private club management and experience the small town lifestyle, while nurturing her love for the mountains. In 2006, she moved to Bend where she feels she has the best of both worlds. After 15 years of club management and certification, she accepted the position of community relations manager for BendBroadband, managing all contributions and CSR strategy for the company.
Currently, she serves as the executive director for the Center Foundation to promote the health and safety of kids through access to sports medicine services and education. Along with her family, her time away from work is filled with skiing, hiking and enjoying the outdoors.
