Patti Devencenzi

Nominated for  2017 Women of the Year Awards

Community Hero of the Year

Patti Devencenzi of Bend, Oregon is being spotlighted for Community Hero. Her story is amazing and without fanfare. She had a dream and goal of coming to Central Oregon and making a difference in the lives of adults and children using the knowledge and skills of horsemanship. When she arrived, with her husband John, in 2006 she envisioned her backyard ranch being transformed to a horse and rider friendly place. After much effort and help from neighbors Patti, who is also a nurse at St. Charles, embarked on her passion with horses and humans.

Life got in the way in 2014 when Patti was diagnosed with Cancer. After exhaustive surgery and treatment, she returned to a rigorous training to reach skills necessary to become a Parelli Natural Horsemanship Instructor. She has reached out to young children and teens along with adult women and uses her horse training skills to sprinkle in life skills such as: respect, confidence, non-verbal skills and utilizing safe space techniques. She uses unconventional and provocative techniques, such as using blind-folds to teach leadership. The end goal is to enjoy the experience for both horse and human. Patti is a recognized leader, problem solver and loves to see improvement and confidence for those she meets, especially women.
