2019 Bend Chamber SAGE Business Awards // Nonprofit of the Year Award Recipient
The accessibility of Healthy Beginnings’ programs, and the longevity of their contribution to our community’s most venerable kids, set them apart from all the other great nominees for Nonprofit of the Year. They continue to find ways to meet parents where they are and help support the family unit. This is critical work in our community. Congratulations, Healthy Beginnings, SAGE Business Awards Nonprofit of the Year Award recipient!
“Healthy Beginnings has served Central Oregon for over 20 years by providing free comprehensive health and developmental screenings to all children under the age of five. About 38% of children in Oregon will arrive to kindergarten with some sort of behavior concern or barrier to learning. Of those children who have an identified need, only 1 in 6 will graduate high school,” shared Diane Murray Fleck, Healthy Beginnings Executive Director.
At Healthy Beginnings, we believe designing a culture of care starts by caring for our youngest citizens to give them the best chance at a bright future.
When they can connect with families during the critical first five years and identify concerns as early as possible, they increase the chance of that child arriving to kindergarten ready to learn, contribute and thrive. When families of young children start the school year with a sense of belonging, the community benefits on multiple levels: increased parent engagement with school, higher graduation rates, increased social/emotional abilities, quality workforce and a stronger community. At Healthy Beginnings, they believe that designing a culture of care starts by caring for our youngest citizens to give them the best chance at a bright future.
Healthy Beginnings believes all families deserve multiple pathways to caring for their children. They are the only program of its kind in Oregon. Healthy beginnings provides a pediatric mobile health clinic that meets families where they are, for free, with the belief that everyone is doing the best they can, and together, we can create a strong future for Central Oregon children and families.
