Key Meetings Next Week for Charter Review Committee and Bend Urban Renewal Agency

Two important groups will hold meetings next week that focus on how the city is governed and how we manage funds going to urban renewal areas. The general public is welcome to attend these meetings.

On November 14: Charter Review Committee Meeting

The Charter Review Committee was established by the City Council to complete the following:
• Develop a recommendation on charter language changes for placing a measure on the ballot for a directly elected mayor.
• Consider and make an initial recommendation on whether to place a ward system measure on the ballot, including what type of ward system (number of wards, number of councilors from each ward, and/or a combination of ward and at-large positions).
• Provide a recommendation on removing all Council pay from the charter to be set by Council ordinance.
• If time allows and Council further directs, consider whether to recommend an additional measure be placed on the ballot related to the 2015 Model Charter (League of Oregon Cities).

The Charter Review Committee will hold a meeting on November 14, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at City Hall in the Council Chambers, 710 NW Wall Street.  The agenda and meeting materials are available on the website:

Future meeting dates:

2nd & 4th Tuesday of each month, 4-6 p.m. Board Room

  • November 28
  • December 12

Additional meetings may be scheduled if needed.

On November 15: Bend Urban Renewal Agency Meeting

The Bend Urban Renewal Agency manages our Urban Renewal Areas (URAs). Urban Renewal is a state-authorized redevelopment finance program. Urban renewal areas use Tax Increment Financing (TIF) to reinvest or rebuild parts of cities that are physically deteriorated, economically stagnated, unsafe or where the old urban layout no longer works. Bend has two established URAs: Murphy Crossing and Juniper Ridge.

The Bend City Council will convene as the Bend Urban Renewal Agency on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at City Hall, 710 NW Wall Street. The agenda is available on the City Calendar at
