City council approved the resolution to support city staff to turn in the application for the Affordable Housing HB 4079 Pilot Program. The bill was passed by the state in 2016 in an effort to spur cities to build affordable housing projects. The program allows one city with a population up to 25,000 and one with a population of 25,000 and over, to develop a 50 acre plot of land.

In a strange twist of events, Bend and Redmond are competing for the same spot in the 25,000 and over category. Although there is a perceived competition between the two cities, both Bend and Redmond are supporting each other’s efforts. Bend city council has gone on record to say the city will lobby the state to continue and expand the HB 4079 pilot program.

City council approved the resolution unanimously.

Vote: 5-0 (Roats excused and Boddie absent.)
