Stan Amy began his career in social enterprise as a student as the founder of what is now College Housing Northwest, providing tenant controlled not-for-profit student housing to the Portland State University campus. In the mid-1970s, Stan began working at Natures Food and Tool store in Portland. He spent the next 20 years building Nature’s Fresh Northwest natural foods markets. Nature’s was an industry pioneer in empowering consumers to vote with their dollars to de-commoditize agriculture and create urban/rural partnerships for a healthy food supply and environment. In 2000 Stan and two other Portland families pooled their resources to co-found New Seasons Market an Oregon-based grocery chain that works directly with local farmers, ranchers, fishers and producers. New Seasons currently has stores in Portland and the San Francisco Bay area, and will open its first store in Seattle in 2017.
Stan is president of New Villages Group, Ltd., a small family fund that invests capital and time in mission balanced endeavors. Its focus is on the natural products industry, adaptive reuse of neighborhood retail and mixed-use real-estate, and small business finance. He has served on the boards of several for-profit and not-for-profit organizations and continues to serve on the boards of New Seasons Market and Craft3, a non-profit organization that helps create economic equity and a healthy environment through mission-centric lending in rural and urban communities in the Pacific Northwest.
