Innovation Day // Catalyst for Conversation

By Garrett Jaenicke – Bend Chamber Marketing Manager

The inaugural session for Innovation Day (July 18, 2017) was a huge success by just about all accounts. More than 170 attendees took part in an all-day, idea-generating, conversation-starting, collaboration-fest at the OSU-Cascades campus.

Participants went through 15 rounds of “speed-dating” table discussions of about 15 minutes each. Each table was facilitated by a company or non-profit that presented an innovation they had in their business or organization and used that as the catalyst for conversation. Many industries were represented, beyond just tech, which led to a wide range of conversations. Topics included middle market housing, agriculture, education, and customer data intelligence. So, there was something for everyone to tap into and contribute. Throughout the day, you heard, “Wow! We never really considered that or looked at it that way.” That was a testament to the power of collective innovation and idea generation.

When it was all over, most everyone was exhausted and invigorated at the same time. It was truly a remarkable event and a testament to the mindset and involvement of the business community here in Bend and Central Oregon. The buzz is already starting around what next year will be like. Will you be there?
