Education-to-Employment (E2E)

Building a Workforce Pipeline

A collaboration between the Bend Chamber, Better Together & the Education and Workforce Training Community. A key initiative at the Bend Chamber of Commerce is to be a resource to its members by working within the community to address workforce issues.

This initiative will include two elements, including a workforce coordinator position and the E2E event on June 6, 2017.

Among the challenges local businesses and organizations face in attracting and retaining employees is growing the pool of a local, qualified workforce. Bend enjoys a number of programs and organizations collectively working on training and placement of interns and employees. The chamber brings its diverse membership of nearly 1300 businesses to these efforts to help connect tomorrow’s workforce to local businesses.

This initiative will include two elements, including a workforce coordinator position and the E2E event on June 6, 2017.

Workforce today & tomorrow

The chamber has teamed up with Better Together, a Central Oregon non-profit organization working to increase capacity for more students and young people to support local businesses through internships.

The goal of the chamber Education-to-Employment (E2E) initiative is to support local businesses by acting as a coordinator between chamber businesses and the educational and workforce training organizations in the community.

Chamber businesses need a sustainable pipeline of local employees. The goal of the chamber Education-to-Employment (E2E) initiative is to support local businesses by acting as a coordinator between chamber businesses and the educational and workforce training organizations in the community.  The chamber will create a position to work with local businesses in the Bend to identify target sectors open to internships and needing assistance in developing new employees.

The outcome will be a scalable internship and workforce development program that meets the needs of employers, while providing support and opportunity to develop an increasing number of home-grown people within Bend’s workforce. This position will be funded by multiple sources through the Bend Chamber and Better Together’s 501C3 status to benefit local businesses and the education of youth.

The program will include a dedicated employee to:

  1. Act as a liaison between chamber members and organizations that provide workforce and youth internships, education and training
  2. Identify employer sectors/individual employers in need of interns and workforce training resources
  3. Work in conjunction with established internship programs at OSU Cascades, Central Oregon Community College and the Bend LaPine School District
  4. Develop strategies and connect chamber businesses with workforce organizations that can assist with training and employee growth
  5. Monitor and measure success
