Find the best waterfalls, hot springs, mountain biking, and other adventures near you with the VIDEO-based adventure guide for everyone, AdventureGuru.org! Whether you have a garage full of gear or a pair of sneakers and a curious spirit, their goal is to get you outside and enjoy everything nature has to offer. Adventure Guru does this by hunting down and filming the best adventures in a region then plotting the 30-60-sec videos onto their interactive adventure map. Every icon is a short movie, an adventure movie trailer of the experience that awaits you. This way you can see if that adventure is worth the hour-long drive if it’s stroller friendly, and what footwear to wear. As you find fun adventures, you can save them into your “bucket list” for later!
Adventure Guru recognizes that there is a significant diversity problem in the outdoor industry which is why they pledge to be part of the solution. Humans of every size, color, age, sexuality, and ability will be represented on Adventure Guru because NATURE IS FOR EVERYONE. “The spectrum of humanity is beautiful and we want everyone to see themselves on Adventure Guru so they’ll know nature is for them.” Learn how they’re doing this here.
They didn’t stop there either… Their adventure platform also serves the community of people with disabilities through custom filters so no matter your ability level (experienced paraglider/mountain biker to those who are looking for a way to get into the trees) or that of your loved ones you can find an adventure that’s accessible. Founder, Shannon McGivney, said, “I believe people with disabilities are the most underserved in the outdoor industry, so we’re taking steps to be part of the solution. When we can build something helpful for all and critical to some I know we’re doing our part to tip the scales back towards equality and equal access to nature’s medicine.”
McGivney worked as a paramedic for 10 years, problem-solving and making high stakes decisions. She then lived an international life for 7 years studying adventure and during that time wrote 12 adventure lifestyle books. Now, she’s compiled all of her skills in order to transition from saving lives to saving your quality of life with Adventure Guru.
“Nature is medicine and the pharmacy is open.” ~ Shannon McGivney
