Growing Your Business Through Contracts with Public Agencies

Several times a year, the local Small Business Development Center hosts an opportunity for local businesses to learn what it takes to do business with public agencies. These agencies would include local cities, counties and schools, as well as, state and federal agencies. It’s a great opportunity to hear directly from the agencies themselves and meet people that will take the time to walk businesses through the process.

An event on September 22nd brought together representatives from the Governor’s office, Secretary of State, Business Oregon, Department of Administrative Services, Certification Office of Business Inclusion & Diversity, Oregon State Parks, Oregon Department of Transportation, City of Bend, Oregon State University and GCAP, the Government Contact Assistance Program for federal agencies. In addition there was a finance panel that included representatives of Business Oregon, Craft3, Mid Oregon Credit Union and Oregon Business Development Corporation.

“These are great resources for businesses gathered all in one place to really make a difference in our local business community,” commented Steve Curley, director of the COCC Small Business Development Center. “Many businesses do not realize that there are opportunities they could be taking advantage of by selling to local public agencies like school districts and cities. They need many of the same products and services that other private businesses purchase.”

There will be another opportunity to hear from and meet with members of a few of these public agencies on January 19th from 10:00am to 2:00pm in Bend at the COCC Chandler Lab building. In addition to presentations from the Governor’s office and Secretary of State’s office, there will also be representatives from the Certification Office of Business Inclusion & Diversity and Department of Administrative Services. Businesses will have an opportunity to meet one-on-one with the representatives and receive individual attention to answer their questions.
