Meet our firefighters and climb upon a fire engine tomorrow!

This week is National Fire Prevention Week and the Bend Fire Department is celebrating with an open house.

The open house is scheduled to take place Saturday, Oct. 10, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the North Fire Station, locate at 63377 Jamison Street.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. The fire began on Oct. 8, but continued into, and did most of its damage, on Oct. 9, 1871.

This year’s national theme “Hear The Beep Where You Sleep”. Every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm. Roughly half of home fire deaths are reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m. when most people sleep. Smoke alarms save lives. If there is a fire in your home smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out. In fact, having a working smoke alarm reduces your risk of dying in a fire by 50 percent!

At the open house, there will be fun, FREE activities for the whole family including meeting firefighters and touring the station. For more information about the Fire Station Open House, or for information about home fire safety, please contact us at 541 322-6309, or visit our website at
