May High Desert Hero

Melissa Olivera has been selected as the May 2015 High Desert Hero, The Center Foundation announced.

Each month The Center Foundation selects an outstanding high school senior who maintains a 3.5 or higher unweighted GPA, displays leadership in school activities and participates in the community.

“Melissa is a senior at Madras High School where she holds a 4.1 weighted GPA. She is secretary of the Madras High School National Honor Society and a Link Crew leader,” the news release states.  “Melissa has played soccer and tennis all four years of her high school career and was selected by her coaches and teammates to serve as Varsity Soccer team captain in her junior and senior seasons. Since her freshman year, Melissa has been member of the Concert and Pep band as well. In addition to these activities, Melissa is also academically outstanding. She is tied for the first place academic ranking in her senior class with her twin sister, Stephanie.”

High Desert Heroes receive a $250 scholarship, and will be highlighted on myWindow and on Horizon Broadcasting Group radio stations. High Desert Heroes are eligible to compete for the prestigious William K. Worrell Scholarship of $5,000. All High Desert Heroes will be acknowledged at the May 6, 2015, Scholarship Awards Dinner.
