2015 and 2016 Judge for the Bend Chamber’s Women of the Year Awards

Judges Questions:

Why did you decide to become a judge?
I am personally always really excited about getting to know other amazing women and leaders in business and community. Being a judge allows me the opportunity to get to know and be inspired by all of these fantastic women who are nominated. It is such an honor to participate with the panel of similarly inspiring judges and select one woman in each category who is truly a rock star.

What does the “Women of the Year Awards” mean to you?
Awards are a wonderful way to recognize those who are working hard and making a difference, but who may not receive other public recognition of their efforts and impact. It’s incredibly important for our community of women to have role models that change perspectives about what women should or should not be doing. The award winners open us to new possibilities and break down barriers in our minds about what is possible.

Emilie Cortes has a mission to inspire individuals to face challenge, risk and fear differently and break down internal barriers to their dreams through positive experiences in the outdoors.

Emilie is a motivational speaker and the former president of Call of the Wild Adventures, Inc., an all-women’s adventure travel company. She left a 17-year career in financial services to align her passion and vocation. Emilie has climbed on six of the seven continents and leads backpacking, trekking, snow camping and climbing trips.

Emilie holds an MBA from Berkeley, in addition to the CFA and CAIA investment designations. She serves as the treasurer to the Compton Foundation and speaks frequently on investments, leadership and adventures in the big mountains, inspiring individuals to reach their own personal heights in their careers and lives.
