5 Fusion and Sushi Bar is pleased to announce that executive chef, Joe Kim, has been named one of only 20 semifinalists for the James Beard Foundation Awards in the category of Best Chef in the Northwest. Chef Kim is the sole chef from Central Oregon named as a semifinalist, and is nominated alongside such culinary stars as Justin Woodward of Castagna, the Dentons of Ox and others.
To coincide with this honor, Chef Kim has been invited to cook at the James Beard House in New York City in the fall of 2016. Dates and seating information will be announced shortly.
In the meantime, Chef Kim will offer a special preview of his seven course James Beard House menu at a charity dinner on March 14 to benefit the Center Foundation. Chef Kim has been leading the 5 Fusion culinary mission and vision for the last five years, garnering multiple awards for his innovative cuisine along the way. Chef Kim is a strong supporter of the Central Oregon community, and continues the tradition of the 5 Fusion charity dinners and other philanthropic pursuits.
Additionally, owner Lilian Chu received a nomination for the Bend Chamber’s “Women of the Year” awards, in the category of Lifetime Achievement. This acknowledges Lilian’s long-standing record of success and innovation in business, plus her significant investments in her community through the 5 Fusion Charity Dinner series, her service to non-profit organizations and her talent in bringing together diverse groups of people over food and conversation.
