Imagine getting a crash course on a community from its history to local hot button issues and having the chance to talk with key leaders one-on-one over nine months. Leadership Bend delivers that and so much more.
Participants connect one-on-one with elected officials and key business leaders while talking about the issues impacting residents today and getting the inside scoop. Leadership Bend goes behind the scenes and investigates topics from all sides.
“Above all, we work hard to develop well-rounded leaders,” says Jamie Christman, director of Leadership Bend. “Graduates of this program will become part of the Leadership Bend Alumni who go on to serve on various community boards, commissions and are involved in key decision-making positions.”
While the program focuses intently on learning about Bend and Deschutes County, Leadership Bend also goes one step further in the development of leadership skills. Participants in the program discover their natural talents as leaders and learn to use those abilities when creating legacy projects to benefit the community.
“I came out of Leadership Bend with an even deeper appreciation for my community, a better understanding of continuing community needs and the ability to share some of what I have learned to help others better understand the myriad resources and opportunities available to them. Leadership Bend has been a delightful experience.” – Wendy Edde, Leadership Bend Class of 2016 and the City of Bend’s Stormwater Program Manager
