EDCO and Boys & Girls Clubs team up again for civil war rally and auction

Just weeks before the Ducks and Beavers face off in Corvallis, Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend (BGCB) will team up again to host the Second Annual Civil War Rally & Auction at the Riverhouse on the Deschutes. On Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 5-9 p.m., the rally will bring business leaders, parents, community members and alumni together in friendly rivalry to support BGCB’s youth development programs as well as Central Oregon’s long-term economic health and prosperity.

“It was an excellent first year event for EDCO and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend, raising $171,000,” said Roger Lee, executive director for EDCO. “We continue to raise the bar on events and believe this year will be even better.”

The event is modeled after a similar civil war auction held in Salem for the past 12 years that benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties. Last year, the Salem auction raised over $400,000 for their youth development programs and initiatives. That kind of success is what led the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend and EDCO to bring something similar to Central Oregon in 2015.

The partnership is a natural one for these two like-minded organizations. Both nonprofits believe that successful economic development begins with healthy families and kids. Together, they form a strong partnership that fulfills the promise of a thriving community. Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend’s youth development programs ensure that the economic opportunities EDCO creates today will be met by the emerging workforce of tomorrow.

“Last year, this event drew a much younger audience than typically attends local fundraisers and brought many new supporters to both organizations,” said Derek Beauvais, executive director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend. “We think the fun Civil War game theme, free childcare, high energy and casual atmosphere appealed to a different demographic.”

The Civil War Rally isn’t your ordinary auction. The Riverhouse on the Deschutes will be transformed into a stadium-like setting, complete with the energy and excitement of the Civil War football game. Event highlights include:

  • More than 150 silent and live auction items
  • Mobile bidding, allowing attendees to track bids and set max bids from their mobile devices
  • Gourmet tailgating menu
  • Referee auctioneer
  • On field announcers
  • Kid’s Rally (free on-site childcare)
