EDCO and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend team up to host new event

Three weeks before the Ducks and Beavers face off in Corvallis, Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend (BGCB) will team up to host the first annual Civil War Rally and Auction at The Riverhouse Convention Center in Bend. On Nov. 4, from 5-9 p.m., the rally will bring business leaders, parents, community members and alumni together in friendly rivalry and fun to support BGCB’s youth development programs as well as Central Oregon’s long-term economic health and prosperity.

The event is modeled after a similar Civil War auction held in Salem for the past 11 years that benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Salem, Marion and Polk Counties. Last year, the Salem auction raised over $350,000 for their youth development programs and initiatives. That kind of success led the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend and EDCO to bring something similar to Central Oregon.

The partnership is a natural one for these two like-minded organizations. Both non-profits believe that successful economic development begins with healthy families and kids. Together, they form a strong partnership that fulfills the promise of a thriving community. Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend’s youth development programs ensure that the economic opportunities EDCO creates today will be met by the emerging workforce of tomorrow.

“We’re excited about this new partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend and the impact it could have on local families and the vitality of the broader business community in Central Oregon,” said Roger Lee, executive director for EDCO.

“Together, our two organizations have an opportunity to make an incredible impact on the kids and families we both serve in order to create a stronger community for all of us,” said Derek Beauvais, executive director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend. “We are thrilled to partner with EDCO for this exciting new event in Bend.”

This won’t be your ordinary auction. The Riverhouse Convention Center will be transformed into a stadium-like setting, complete with the energy and excitement of the Civil War football game between Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. Event highlights include:

  • More than 150 silent and live auction items
  • Gourmet tailgating menu
  • Referee auctioneer
  • On field announcers
  • Kid’s Rally (on-site childcare provided by Boys & Girls Club staff)
  • Spirited, friendly rivalry between Ducks and Beavers fans
