Celebrating 25 years of hot summer days and the thriving Central Oregon outdoor event season, the free Bank of the Cascades Bend Summer Festival, presented by The Source Weekly and Hayden Homes, takes place in downtown Bend. For quarter of a century, thousands of people have explored the original art and enjoyed a robust offering of children’s activities, live music, great food, wine, beer, cocktails and ciders. This year will be no different with artists from all over, amazing musicians such as Nu Shooz, Larry and His Flask, and Saturday night The Peak 104.1 MainStage headliner, Sir Mix-a-lot, and delicious gourmet food and wine.
The Bank of the Cascades Bend Summer Festival, presented by Hayden Homes and The Source Weekly, will take place Friday, July 10 through Sunday July 12. Friday evening kicks off with three very distinct concerts, with Moonroom performing on the 106.7 KPOV Locals Only Stage (located in the Wells Fargo parking lot), Soul Benders on the Cascade Sotheby’s Jazz Gourmet Food and Wine Stage (located on Minnesota St) and Larry and His Flask performing on the Peak 104.1 MainStage for one of their only reunion shows (located on Oregon St). Throughout the night, Deschutes Brewery is hosting the libations bar, offering Deschutes Brewery beer, wine, cocktails made with Bendistillery Crater Lake vodka, and Atlas Cider.
The festival at large kicks off on Saturday from 11am to 11pm, and again on Sunday from 11am to 5 p.m. where more than 100 artists and craftsmen will be featured on the Artist Promenade. Also, on Minnesota Street, visitors can experience the Cascade Sotheby’s Gourmet Jazz, Food and Wine street. Full of vibrant wines, delectable gourmet offerings and impromptu jazz buskers, this street is sure to provide a unique experience. Throughout the day there will be plenty of vendors serving food and other beverages to complete the experience of a day at the Bend Summer Festival.
Additionally, The Conscious Living Showcase sponsored by Sunlight Solar Energy and Great Northern Window and Door, will feature over 40 regional businesses that support a high quality of life here in Central Oregon.
In honor of the 25th anniversary of the Bend Summer Festival, the official art of the festival features work from Bend native, Shelli Walters. “Blue Guitar with Bird” is featured on the 2015 Bend Summer Festival fine art poster.
More about Shelli Walters: Shelli has turned her passion for art and design into a 20+ year career as an art director and graphic designer – and more recently into a contemporary fine art painter. She has been a Bend resident since childhood and is a member at Tumalo Art Company in The Old Mill District, Bend, Oregon.
Shelli’s painting process is a synthesis of having a plan and allowing the work to evolve. She paints from her thoughts and experiences, exploring images ranging from landscapes and flowers, to animals and bicycles. Her intention is to evoke a sense of freedom, joy and empowerment through images everyone can relate to. “My paintings are an imperfect comingle of paint, typography, graphics, pattern, sketch and texture. Discovering the surprises the mixing of these elements reveal in every painting as I push and pull paint around the surface keeps me engaged and inspired.”
