On Nov. 4, Economic Development for Central Oregon (EDCO) and Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend (BGCB) teamed up to host the First Annual Civil War Rally & Auction, raising $171,000 for BGCB’s youth development programs as well as Central Oregon’s long-term economic health and prosperity. The event, held at The Riverhouse Convention Center, brought business leaders, parents, community members and alumni together for a night of friendly rivalry and fun in support of the two local non-profits.
EDCO and BGCB believe that successful economic development begins with healthy families and kids. Together, they formed a strong partnership that fulfills the promise of a thriving community. Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend’s youth development programs ensure that the economic opportunities EDCO creates today will be met by the emerging workforce of tomorrow.
With the help of sponsors, partners and countless volunteers, The Riverhouse Convention Center was transformed into a stadium-like setting, complete with the energy and excitement of the Civil War football game between Oregon State University and the University of Oregon. Event highlights included 150 silent and live auction items, a gourmet tailgating menu, referee auctioneers, on field announcers and sportscasters, field turf and Box Seats, the Summit High School marching band, and cheerleaders from OSU.
“I am proud of what our two organizations were able to accomplish with this event in its first year,” said Roger Lee, executive director for EDCO. “We are thankful to everyone who came together to make it happen and those who helped us raise funds to build a stronger economy in Central Oregon.”
“As an organization, we cannot overstate how excited we are to be part of such an incredible event,” said Derek Beauvais, Executive Director for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Bend. “Central Oregon rallied together to support the kids and families in our area and the funds raised last night will go a long way in helping to build a stronger community.”
